The Fanuc M-1iA and the Fanuc LR Mate 200iC robots are increasing productivity in the assembly of solar panels.  The M-1iA robot picks 10 solar cells off a conveyor belt and places them on another conveyor belt.  The LR Mate 200iC uses iRVision to locate the 10 solar cells and places them on the top of an opened solar panel.  The LR Mate 200iC then places a glass panel on top of the solar cells, completing the assembly process.

Fanuc robots are replacing humans in the production of solar panels for sanitary and handling reasons.  Manufacturing solar panels is hard for humans because of the cleanliness requirements.  There is zero tolerance for dust, dirt, and fingerprints in the production of solar panels.  The solar energy industry is experiencing an evolution in thin film modules comprising solar panels.  Solar panels 200 or less microns thick are hard to be manually handled by human hands and are often damaged when done so.  Robotic precision nearly eliminate the scraping factor common to the handling of solar panels.

Fanuc robots are being used in the painting, gel coating, and welding of utility wind turbines.  Fanuc robots reduce material costs with the precision of their paint and gel coat applications.  When done manually, painters have little control over the thickness of the paint they’re applying.  A robot can repeatedly apply paint in the appropriate thickness, eliminating the over-spray associated with painters.  Fanuc robots can precisely cut and weld together components of utility wind turbines.  The use of robots for welding decreases waste and improves the turbines structural integrity because a robot produces the accurate weld size and thickness consistently.
