Fanuc robotics incorporated into blasting machine

Fanuc Robot for Blast Cleaning, Cosmetic Finishing and Surface Preparation

Guyson Corporation introduced a Fanuc robotics blasting system based on one of its compact rotary suction-blast cabinets. FANUC system for robotic blasting machineThis new blasting system Model RB-RSSA-6, incorporated with a Fanuc LR Mate 200iC robot, is designed for work cell blasting operations, such as blast cleaning, cosmetic finishing and technical surface preparation. This new blasting system incorporates the same great Fanuc technology as used in the painting robot introduced by Fanuc Robotics America in 2008.

This Fanuc robotics blasting system features a 42 inch-wide blast chamber housing a single rotary spindle on which an interchangeable component-holding fixture is mounted. When the blast cycle is initiated, the component is rotated at controlled and adjustable speed as a single suction-blast gun is directed at the target surfaces by a 6-axis robot. The system’s PLC is capable of storing and recalling automated blasting routines for up to 100 different components. A custom designed touch-screen interface allows the human operator to select the program for a particular component and also displays process data such as the duration and elapsed time of the blasting cycle, the levels of blast media, and contents of the dust collector drum. The pre- programmed robotic motion of the blasting nozzle ensures specific stand-off distance and angle of blast media impingement is constantly maintained. Following media blasting the Fanuc robotics blasting system directs a blow-off nozzle during the timed air wash cycle.

The Fanuc LR Mate 200iC is a compact, high-speed robot arm with a slim profile and light weight. Its high positioning accuracy and tabletop size make it ideal for a variety of automation applications like this blasting machine. Over 200,000 Fanuc robotics are installed worldwide and more than 200 robot variations are available to work in a wide range of applications such as this work cell blasting machine.
