FANUC Robotics Profits Soar as Demand Increases

CNC Machines Increase Industrial Efficiency

Fanuc Robotics’ profits are rising, and rising fast. The world’s industrialized nations are growing, expanding, and becoming more efficient than ever due to the rise in Fanuc’s main product: the computer numerical controls, or CNC, which now are controlling over 50 percent of the world’s automated robots and machine tools. The 2010 Japan International Machine Tool Fair featured over 800 different companies displaying their various tools such as a van-sized box engineered to sculpt titanium for jet engines, a machine carving copper wire into microscopic chip circuitry, and a milling machine manufacturing iPhone cases. Many of the tools displayed at the fair had one thing in common – they contained the computer-controlled brains manufactured by Fanuc Robotics.

Fanuc boosted their net income to $373.1 million during the second quarter of 2010, increasing almost eightfold from a year earlier. The somewhat secretive organization machine tool plants reside on the base of Mount Fuji, where it is common for factory floors to have only a handful of people - the rest are all robots reproducing themselves. President Yoshiharu Inaba says, “Part of the strategy is to make sure our competitors don’t get [our] information”. While this secretive disposition and semi-surreal atmosphere may be slightly disconcerting to some, there is no denying the effectiveness and demand of the Fanuc products. Machinists at various companies agree the Fanuc equipment is a boon to their success as it is quite user-friendly. With industrial societies flocking towards automated equipment to save on costs and improve efficiency, Fanuc Robotics continues to produce more and more machinery.
